Broward teacher arrested, accused of ‘offense against student by authority figure’

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A Broward County public school teacher was arrested Thursday and booked into the Broward County Main Jail, records show.

Online jail records show Basil Billings, 63, faces charges of offense against student by authority figure and lewd and lascivious touching of certain minors.

Billings is listed on the Broward County Public School District’s website as a reading teacher at Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale.

Police say the victim is a 16 or 17-year-old student.

Local 10 News has reached out to Broward County Public Schools to see if any action has been taken against Billings.

We have also requested his arrest report.

Billings is expected to appear in bond court Friday morning.
