Man admits to firing ‘warning shot’ at driver during red light argument in Miami-Dade, deputy reports

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 24-year-old man confessed to firing a “warning shot” at a driver during an argument on Monday afternoon in southwestern Miami-Dade County, according to a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputy’s report.

Deputies arrested Daniel Cancio shortly after 3:45 p.m. on Monday at 10855 SW 72 St. in Kendall after the victims reported a shooting, according to the MDSO deputy’s arrest report.

A driver reported stopping at the red light at Sunset Drive at Southwest 97 Avenue and talking to Cancio about witnessing him speeding through a school zone, according to the deputy’s arrest report.

The driver “observed [Cancio] reach into the rear area of his vehicle and retrieve what appeared to be a firearm,” a deputy wrote, according to the report.

Cancio confessed to using a pellet gun that deputies found in his car to shatter the driver’s back passenger side window, according to the deputy’s report. The victims took a photo of Cancio’s tag.

Miami-Dade County corrections booked Cancio shortly before 9 p.m. on Monday at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center near Doral, according to inmate records.

Cancio faced charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and criminal mischief. His bond was $5,500.
