According to BSO, a suspect that deputies had been seeking was observed pumping gas at the Wawa located at 6350 Stirling Road on Monday evening.
As authorities converged on the suspect, they said a fight broke out between him and the approaching officers.
Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony said the suspect was armed and was told to give up his gun, but when that didn’t happen, it led to the exchange of gunfire.

Tony said the suspect was wanted for fleeing and eluding, and indicated that deputies had DNA evidence linking the suspect to additional crimes, through he did not specify beyond that.
He also did not say whether it was a deputy or the officer who fatally shot the suspect.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is expected to take over the investigation, as is customary with deputy involved shootings.
