A few hours after the Marlins (22-27) lost 8-4 to the Atlanta Braves (33-16) in the second of a four-game series Tuesday at loanDepot park — a game in which Miami squandered a 4-2 lead — the club optioned Garrett back to Triple-A, according to Christina De Nicola of MLB.com.

Through two starts — one at home and one on the road — Garrett has struggled with his command of the strike zone.

The 28-year-old from Florence, Alabama has yielded seven earned runs in 4 1/3 innings, walking eight and punching out five.

Garrett’s first inning against the Minnesota Twins was similar to his opening frame Tuesday, as he worked himself into a bases-loaded, no-out jam.

He has thrown 129 pitches across the two outings, and opponents are hitting .368 against him.

Garrett replaced left-hander Robby Snelling in Miami’s rotation, with Snelling set to meet with Dr. Keith Meister in Texas for further evaluation.

The Marlins placed Snelling on the 15-day injured list on May 13 with a left elbow UCL sprain.

Miami continues its series Wednesday at 6:40 p.m. ET, but the question now is who will take Garrett’s spot in the rotation.
