Man hospitalized after shooting at Pompano Beach gas station

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — Authorities in Broward County are investigating a shooting that sent one person to the hospital.

Deputies with the Broward Sheriff’s Office arrived to the Orion gas station located at 101 E. Atlantic Blvd. in Pompano Beach shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday after receiving reports of gunfire.

Responding deputies arrived to find a man who had been shot.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue rushed the man to Broward Health North for treatment, authorities said.

Surveillance video showed an altercation between a woman and the man who would eventually be shot.

The video shows the two in a physical struggle, with the woman appearing to try to get away from the man and into the passenger side of a white Toyota RAV4 SUV that was parked at the gas pumps.

Later, that same man approached the driver side of the SUV, and as he got closer to the person standing next to the SUV, that person opened fire at the man as he tried to run away.

The gas station was blocked off with yellow police tape as investigators processed the scene.

Inside the tape was the Toyota SUV and six evidence markers.

Deputies said one person was detained at the scene following the shooting.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
