Police: Suspect shot during attempted robbery of off-duty cop near Smith & Wollensky in Miami Beach

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — A suspect was shot early Wednesday morning after trying to rob an off-duty police officer near Smith & Wollensky in South Pointe, authorities confirmed to Local 10 News.

According to Miami Beach police, the attempted robbery occurred at about 1:10 a.m.

Police said the suspect was shot, but the officer was not injured.

“Many residents will also remember that just last month there was another shooting near the valet stand at Milos in South Pointe,” an MBPD spokesperson told Local 10 in an email. “South of Fifth remains one of the most desirable neighborhoods in our city, but incidents like these are reminders that we can never become complacent when it comes to safety, policing, awareness, and continued investment in public security — at South Pointe Park.”
