Coast Guard: Boat sinks with 700 gallons of fuel in Key West

KEY WEST, Fla. — The U.S. Coast Guard responded to a 48-foot boat that sank on Sunday with 700 gallons of diesel fuel at the Perry Marina in Key West.

U.S. Coast Guard investigators reported that there was “an active diesel discharge from the vessel’s bow and stern” and used a “containment boom.”

The Coast Guard announced “the use of federal funds to lift the vessel and remove all remaining fuel and oil” to protect the “sensitive marine environment of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.”
